Every year, Montcrest partners with an inner-city school to provide used books to children who would not otherwise have them.
Volunteer Opportunities / Time Commitment
- Six parents are needed during the collection period (May) to sort and box the books received that day. The time commitment is about 30-45 minutes per collection day.
Class Parents
Committee Chair: Susan Farrow-Hutcheson
There is a Class Parent for each of the 23 classes at Montcrest. Responsibilities include:
- Working with your child's teacher to co-ordinate parent
volunteers for class trips and events.
Informing the parents in your class of key school-wide events and recruiting volunteers. - Working with the other class parents to co-ordinate and/or host a cocktail party for the parents in your grade, to be held in the Fall.
- Attending monthly Parents' Association meetings which last about an hour.
Volunteer Opportunities / Time Commitment
- We need a Class Parent for every class. The time commitment is sporadic throughout the year, but averages about one hour a month.
Goodwill Clothing Drives

Based on our success last year, we will once again be holding
Fall and Spring Used Clothing drives with Goodwill.

- Goodwill manages the collection of clothing for the school. We just need your donations!
Fall Fair
Committee Chairs: Lynne Woollcombe
The Fall Fair takes place on Sunday, October 4, 2009. It is an all-family event, with a focus on having fun and meeting other Montcrest families and faculty. Activities include games, entertainment, and a BBQ.
Volunteer Opportunities / Time Commitment
- Volunteers are still needed to be part of the planning committee, and to work on the day of the Fair to man games, give out prizes, BBQ, etc. Getting involved is a great way to kick off the year! Time commitment varies by position, but can be as little as a one hour shift.
Gym Uniforms
Committee Chairs: Rebecca Elia
The Montcrest Parents' Association operates the gym uniform program for the school. The Committee is responsible for design, ordering and sale of gym uniform items.

Holiday Gift Wrap Sale

Based on the success of this event over the past four years, we will once again be selling gift wrap, chocolates and gift ideas from Innisbrook during October/November.

- A number of volunteers will be needed to promote the sale, complete order forms and sort gift wrap orders. Time commitment is one to two hours.
Lunch Program

We will require volunteers to distribute the meals to classrooms.

- "Back-Up Volunteers" would be called on an as-needed basis. Time commitment is two hours during the Friday lunch period.
Magazine Sale
Committee Chair: Jennifer Varden
Back by popular demand is our magazine sale in October. Most popular magazine titles, as well as some books and CDs will be offered.

- A couple of volunteers will be needed to promote the event to parents and faculty, and to collect and check order forms. Time commitment is a couple of hours per volunteer.
"Monty's Cupboard"- School Tuck
Shop
Committee Chairs: Gilda Bissada
Monty's Cupboard is the school tuck shop, and is run by the Parents' Association. The shop sells all uniform items except white socks and shoes. Starting this year the store will also have a used uniform section. We also sell a limited amount of school supplies, school memorabilia, snacks and drinks. It is a very popular spot with students!
Volunteer Opportunities / Time Commitment
- Volunteers may be needed to work in the shop before the first day of school. This is a very busy time for the pick-up of pre-orders and the sale of school supplies. Time commitment is two to three hours.
- Volunteers are needed to work during shop hours throughout the school year. The shop is open Monday through Friday at lunch (12:15-1:00) and Monday through Thursday after school (3:00-3:45).
