Daisy Kling, Montcrest '06 alumni, was one of a trio of 11th graders hoping that their musical fundraiser will raise awareness and money for the victims of the genocide in Darfur. On June 2 at the Berkeley Church, local bands The Cheap Kicks and Birds of Whales appeared along with guest speaker Debbie Bodkin, formerly of the United Nations in Darfur. Most notably, perhaps, the tenacious teens secured Tamarama, a folk-rock duo from Australia, famed for their recent appearance on MTV's The City .

Matt Andrews' Travel Adventure Update!
Matt Andrews latest travel adventures took him to Sweden and Bogota, Columbia! He was one of five representing Canada at the International Youth Meeting through the Children's International Summer Villages (www.cisv.ca).
CISV is a world-wide organization promoting peace and understanding through children. Dr. Doris Allen, a psychologist at the University of Cincinnati, formed the organization in 1951. Her premise was that teaching children to live together as friends could create true and lasting global peace. There are now 58 member countries and many types of programs.
Matt's CISV experience was extremely educational and very fun. He will be applying to do a Seminar Camp for next year and then ultimately when he's of age, hoping to be chosen as a Group Leader and take his own delegation of young children to a Camp or Village somewhere in the world through CISV.
Matt Andrews is currently a student at Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute. He may be contact through the Montcrest School Alumni Directory.
Matt's brother, Graham Andrews, is pursuing a Law Degree in Brisbane, Australia.

Upcoming Show!

November 8th December 14th, 2008
Campbell House Museum Gallery, 160 Queen Street West
I have always heard legends about the East Coast of Canada. I've
heard tales of the ocean with cod and marine life, including the
lobsters, puffins, and whales. I've heard stories of fishermen
going out to sea, to return with a daily catch. I've heard about
glimpses of icebergs, and stories about moose in the night.
After all, some of my family hail from Rothesay, New Brunswick and
relatives still live in Halifax, Nova Scotia today.
I was fortunate to be able to travel to the East Coast in the
summer of 2007. I traveled for two months from Utopia in New
Brunswick to Cartwright in Labrador, and I didn't forget to see
Newfoundland, Cape Breton, and Nova Scotia along the way. Not only
did I enjoy a workshop with Freeman Patterson, but I also had the
chance to see mountains, oceans, forest, beaches, moose, puffins,
whales, macros of rocks and shells, tons of great vistas, and a lot
of nice people. The oceans are being depleted, and litter
frequently drifts into shore, but people are still generally kind
hearted, and there are still many small towns where you can escape
the busy pace of the city.
I have to admit that the lobster near Fundy National Park is
delicious, but one of the greatest thrills was traveling to
Labrador as far north as the road would take me.
"Green Raven Photography believes that the environment should be protected. Today the landscape and the environment are changing widely. To enjoy the benefits of vast amounts of wilderness, we have to appreciate the beauty of the wild that we have today, and see the importance of protecting it. Noah Cole of Green Raven Photography travels across Canada and across borders to show nature and travel photography as windows to the wild."
10% of the show will be donated to the Nature Conservancy of Canada
