The goal of Montcrest School is to provide children at the elementary level with a solid academic foundation for success throughout their education.
Montcrest's philosophy is that success is best achieved in the friendly atmosphere of a small class. There, the child's opportunity for learning is maximized and students progress with their strengths challenged and their weaknesses addressed. Children with special learning needs are supported in individualized programs with the aim of eventual integration.
Teachers at Montcrest strive to instill a love of learning as well as the skills necessary to learn successfully. Curiosity and enthusiasm are encouraged to enhance the learning of basic verbal, numerical, and written skills. While attending to each pupil's academic development, Montcrest is also concerned with the "whole child", striving to maintain a balance of a child's physical, emotional, and moral development.
The physical education program at Montcrest emphasizes the importance of health and exercise for every child. Creative and spontaneous play is encouraged for younger children, and the development of teamwork, sportsmanship, and leisure-time pursuits for the older ones.
Art, vocal and instrumental music, and drama programs are offered to stimulate students' imaginations and creative abilities. Exposure to cultural activities both within the school and in the community enriches their experience.
A code of personal deportment is maintained at Montcrest that extends to dress, language, and social behavior. Self-discipline is encouraged through teaching thoughtful regard for the welfare of others.
The Montcrest community, consisting of pupils, teachers, administrators, and parents, endeavors through close communication to work harmoniously to promote the goals of the school as exemplified in its motto from Chaucer:
GLADLY WOLDE HE LERNE AND GLADLY TECHE
