Parent volunteers are critical to the Montcrest community.
Volunteers help to enrich our children's experiences by providing support to teachers and staff, and by planning and executing both school and community-building events. All parents, both new and returning, are welcomed and encouraged to get involved in the parent volunteer community. Your time, no matter how much or how little, is appreciated.
DONE IN A DAY – Over the course of the school year, there are a number of volunteer opportunities which are one-off in nature, typically have little or no advance preparation and can be done in as little as two hours. An example of a “done in a day” task could be manning the popcorn machine one day at recess as a special treat for the children. Please note: “Done in a day” does not refer to field trips, Fall Fair, etc. – these requests will come through class parents. Contact: Kirsten Cooney (firstname.lastname@example.org)
COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE – Assist with various community service initiatives such as a Bookshare (volunteers will sort and box books donated by the Montcrest Community and then distribute them to an inner-city school). Contact: Donna Lindell (email@example.com)
MONTCREST COMMUNITY GARDEN – Volunteers needed to dig in the dirt in the fall and spring! Contact: Ben Blakey (firstname.lastname@example.org)
THE TUCK SHOP – Here’s your chance to see your kids in action! Join the crazy lunchtime pace and sell the kids cookies, snacks and drinks OR take an afternoon shift and meet other Montcrest parents while selling them school uniforms (and an occasional afternoon snack or two!) Lunch shifts are Monday–Thursday from 11:45 – 12:30, and afternoon shifts are Monday-Thursday from 3:15 - 4:00. Contact: Daphne Pressman (email@example.com)
FALL FAIR – Our annual Fall Fair will be on Sunday, October 1th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Join the planning committee to create an unforgettable day for Montcrest families and friends. Note: Event day volunteers will be requested by class parents in September. If you are interested in the 2017 Fall Fair - Contact: Tiffany Knight (firstname.lastname@example.org)
LIBRARY LEARNING – This is your chance to model your love of reading while playing a critical role in the day-to-day functioning of the library! Responsibilities (when you’re not reading!) include database entry, sorting and shelving library books, assisting with displays, and labeling books. Contact: Sacha Neesham (email@example.com)
CLASS PARENT – Get to know your child’s teacher, the other children in your child’s class, and their parents by becoming a class parent. Your job will be to work with your teacher to coordinate parent volunteers for class trips and activities, communicate with parents in your class about school and class events, and help with the grade cocktail party. Contact: Kelly Shortt (firstname.lastname@example.org)
PIZZA LUNCH PROGRAM – This is the best lunch of the week! Prepare “class baskets” of pizza slices and cookies that are delivered by students to all the classes for Wednesday’s lunch. Shifts are from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. every Wednesday. Contact: Heather Abbott (email@example.com)
